3 More Steps to Building a Successful Direct Sales Business
It takes determination, perseverance and stamina to build your direct sales business into a strong-standing, thriving company that will continue to grow and multiply. So, how do you do that? How do you build your business when the excitement, rush and newness wears off?
Here are 3 things you should do immediately to lay the foundation and create a successful direct sales business.
1. Attend your first team meeting right away. Don’t make the mistake of procrastinating on this one. It’s not wise to put this step off until after your first show. Thinking you’ll start going later is also a mistake. If you were recruited today, and there’s a meeting tomorrow, go.
You will learn so much at the meeting, meet other goal oriented people who are making their direct sales dreams come true and it will help build a strong foundation for your business. You will most likely receive materials that will help you build your business and keep you motivated.
Another tip: Don’t schedule any shows on meeting nights. This is a common mistake for new recruits because they are so eager to book shows they forget they are in control of their own schedule. The meetings are important to attend every week or month, so make it a point right away to attend by making room for them in your schedule.
2. Set your goals. At team meetings you will learn what incentives the company offers to recruits and for sales. Set your goals accordingly. If you’re not prize-oriented, but want or need to make a certain income, set your goals accordingly. Figure out how much you are going to have to sell in order to reach that income level. Then book shows accordingly.
Often you will have to go outside your circle of friends and family to reach these goals. If you started building your business with step one above, this shouldn’t be a problem. You will meet new people all the time. Look for the excited ones, the ones that love the product and need to make more income or who want to start a new career. Be sure they are goal oriented, driven and know how to set goals themselves. More importantly look for those who have a plan to reach their goals.
3. Keep the momentum. Don’t get discouraged or give up when you get a few rejections. It takes perseverance and determination to get any business going and keep it growing. If you stick through the tough times, the good times will be even sweeter.
If you’ve set your goals properly – high enough to work, yet low enough to reach – then you should be able to obtain them with determination and drive. There will be set backs when starting any business, so go in knowing this. This will help you stick with it through the slow and rough times. If you need to readjust your goals do it, but don’t give up. When you go through a fire you always come out stronger and more determined than ever before.
Building a direct sales business can be fun, exciting and rewarding. You will meet lots of great people along the way; some will become your teammates and some your customers. Just remember, without them your business will not grow so choose wisely and work hard to help these people in whatever role they may play in your business.
Don’t let the slow times bring you down. Persevere, stand strong and carry on. Keep your goals in front of you at all times. Use visual motivators like posters of the nice car you’re striving for or the dollar amount you want to make each week. Make a plan and work it. Soon you will have a thriving, successful direct sales business.
