Building A Targeted Scrapbook Customer List

Many of you now know the importance of building your list. But you might not be aware of how crucial a highly targeted opt-in list is for your business. Let's review and take action!

First, decide on your niche or target market. Knowing what this is, not only gives you something to focus on, but will help you find the people who will be interested in the information you have to provide.  Note: if you scrapbook for others, then scrapbookers are not your target market.

Finding a niche or target market which will be profitable is part of your initial research. You may be tempted to choose a topic that you're passionate about. However, choosing a topic that might be of interest to you may not be the best choice for an online business venture. Look for something a little more promising financially. It may be difficult for people to gain trust in your products if you don’t carefully research first.  What if you sell scrapbooking supplies online? There are so many manufacturers and different types of scrapbook supplies available, you'll never be able to carry them all. Selling scrapbook supplies is fine, but could end up being quite expensive and overwhelming if you try to carry everything. It is best to start narrowing down your options. Try for something a little more controllable and specific. So, instead of any and all scrapbook supplies, you choose to narrow it down to baby, travel, wedding or faith-based. This is a good start. With a little more research, you can determine what can be a profitable target niche.

Or instead of taking the theme route, go for a different, smaller, or unique spin.
  • hard to find supplies
  • discounted supplies
  • specialize in only a few companies
  • a particular technique (stamping/inking)
  • or style (shabby chic)

If you already have a relevant list, ask them what their interests are. What would they like to learn more about, need help with, etc. Don’t be alarmed if you see people opt-ing out, especially from a purchased or rented list. You're fine tuning the list for optimal profits. It’s much better to have a targeted list of 1,000 people than to have a global list of 10,000 who don’t care at all about what you’re doing.

Whether you've purchased a list or are building one from scratch, a targeted and specific niche topic is the key to online profits. Specializing in a narrow subject makes it easier to be the expert and a source of quality information. Once your subscribers gain that feeling of trust with you, they will recommend your site or mailing list to their friends. This is one of the great ways your list will keep growing; only now it’s with people you know are interested in what you have to offer. There is always room for new subscribers interested in your niche.
