Motivation. It’s a big word that powerfully guides every part of our lives. From the smallest action to big business dealings motivation guides us and determines not only our choices but our broader business course. We are guided, swayed and changed by the powerful force of motivation.
Eckhart Tolle said, Follow your own particular dreams. We are handed a life by peers, parents and society, you can do that or follow your own dreams. Life is short, be a dreamer…
Given the power and force of motivation it’s important your motivation be yours and yours alone. Don’t allow the motivation of others to determine your business motivation.
Your very own brand of personal motivation is key to success in business. It’s the thing that gets you up every morning and off to work and daily activities. Motivation starts with you and only you and it depends very much on how you feel about yourself. If you’re down or experience a failure on a particular day your motivation might wane a bit.
The first rule of personal motivation is to keep going, don’t accept failure! Motivation is what gets you through the tough days and moments.
Tips for personal motivation:
Know Thyself!
Motivation is one of the most driving forces in our work. It can mean great success or disappointing failure. Make sure you know the source of your motivation. If your passion is based on pressures from society, parents, spouse and not a reflection of your own desires, you could face many obstacles along the way.
Take a look at your personal motivation…the things that move you alone! Your thoughts, patterns and personal experience are all part of the collective you that drives your motivation.
Inspiration
Inspiration is key to getting and remaining motivated. If your inspiration isn’t strong it’s not likely you’ll stay motivated for long. Think about that dazzling feeling when you’re truly inspired. It’s an amazing force all by itself and can fuel your dreams into reality.
Ask yourself if you’re excited about doing your work everyday? Is it an obligation? Many people create a business that looks good on paper but in truth does little for them personally. Inspiration on paper alone does little to help you during difficult times as a small business owner. You might grow tired of your chosen business.
Goal Setting
Setting your goals and creating a business plan it of dire importance for any business. Your motivation is impacted by your ability to meet your stated goals and knowing can devise strategies to succeed. It’s far too easy to stray off course without a clear statement of your mission and goals.
Take time to put everything in writing. Sure a business plan can sound like a major undertaking but in reality it’s only a combination of goals, action plans, and a budget. Write one and be sure to update it on an annual basis.
Network, network, network
Networking is a major buzzword these days. For good reason.
Reaching out to and communicating with other small business owners can be exhilarating and so very helpful. What one person can’t do alone a team can tackle easily.
Don’t be isolated as it is one of the traps of working from home. Talk, share and always communicate! Connect with people in your community or online. Shared support is motivating!
Many business people report that finding the right group to network with was a huge turning point in their business. The ability to share problems, expertise and experience is golden and so valued in a business environment.
Keep it Strong!
Motivation keeps us moving forward. Take the time to look at what your personal motivation is….and isn’t. Once you tap into your passions your focus and enthusiasm will rarely be depleted. In fact nothing will stop you!
